Hi Reefers

Things have been crazy busy with work and studies, and I fear that I can no longer provide a fit home for my 3 fish. So instead of trying to make a buck out of them I want to give them away.

Terms and Conditions:

Gauteng Reefers get dibs

Collection only

The paired false clowns get to stay together

up for grabs:

1 x pair of false perk clowns, had them for three years since they were tiny, the average life span in captivity is 4 to 8 years so they got plenty life left

1 x unknown stow-away goby, I think its a rock goby or possibly a dragon goby, not sure, the goby blended so well with the crushed coral substrate in a tank that I bought from some people moving down to the coast(it's a survivor considering that the tank stood outside, drained, in summer, for a couple of days before I found it), reef safe, huge apatite(any meaty foods such as mysis, brine shrimp etc.)

I would prefer it if all three fish go to one member

The goby looks like this

4 x Durbanite snails I got from sweetnsour, awesome algae chompers :)

Hi again guys

Just wanted to find out, I bought the above skimmer over the weekend and after a vinegar rinse, hooked her up to my 6ft. There seems to be a heck of a lot of bubbles. thing is, it only gets about 3quaters full. how long does it take normally to build up skimmate? How deep must the skimmer be to work best? It is an in-sump skimmer.

Any advice would be welcomed. thanks!

Good day ladies and gentlemen! I have been...

Good day ladies and gentlemen! I have been reading and researching your great site for the past couple of weeks...pestered some of the contributors on the forum (who explained...and explained...and thankfully stayed calm)now I and am MUCH more informed regarding cycling, filtration and taking things slow!!! I am purchasing a Buyo TL550 (120L with internal sump and protein skimmer)

I Am OK with regards to cycling etc. but would appreciate any advice on a couple of issues.

I would like to keep some coral (rics, mushrooms and coral which should have long enough polyps for the clownfish to host in). My question is this: Would the standard lighting of the tank be sufficient to keep coral?

Would a small setup like this be large enough to keep the following fish?

2 X Clownfish (black)

2X Banggai Cardinals

1 or 2 Blennies ( I have noticed that there are numerous very attractive varieties on the web). Should I try a special import, or would it be better staying with the normal Bicolour or Midas Blennies?

1 or 2 Gobies. I have heard that they tend to be territorial, so mayby just one?

1 or 2 cleaner shrimps

1 Pedersons shrimp

1 Blue legged Hermet crab

1 normal wild caught Hermit crab

1 or 2 Snails

The idea is to introduce 2 corals once the tank shows 0 for ammonia, nitrites and nitrates for 7 days. I shall wait a week, and introduce another coral and 1 shrimp...wait another week and introduce another coral and another shrimp...I'm sure you get the picture! The idea is to introduce all the coral and shrimps/crabs/snails before eventually introducing the fish. My thinking is that I should have all the coral and other creatures settled in the tank before introducing the fish...that way I don't have to "fiddle" too much with my hands in the tank once the fish are in? Would a 7 day gap between placing 1 or 2 additional creatures be enough time for bacterial growth to catch up?

One last thing...Should I have the Purigen and Seagel in the sump whilst cycling the tank? I was also advised to introduce Seachem Stability and Cycle which might aid in the cycling of the water.

I have so far seeked the advice of Janneman and Super Frog and MariusMeyer ...but I don't want to get to the stage where the friendship is ruined due to my constant bugging them with questions and phone calls!! :sorry:

Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated.

Konitchiwa

So silverthorne gratefully took my 3ft and all the equipment as I decided I need to get rid of that damned thing and he was more than happy to take it (anything for free is a grand thing).

So i decided to get on a new small and managble build. I had an old 2ft tank kicking around, so i decided to use that and attempt to build a miniture lagoon kinda thing. Now i can see you are wondering HTF (how the f##k) is he gonna get a lagoon style build in a 2ft tank? I figured if the water level is shorter than your tank is wide then it will give that "drawn-out" look.

So now that you all know the plan, I'll give you some specs.

Tank Dimensions : - 610x325x300 LWH water level at 250 (I know its shallow!)

Proposed Lighting - 24w T5's. I was thinking of only using 2, but I wanna go blue light only (sort of like a 20k halide look, without the halide), so i might need more, was also thinking of adding a fiji purple in there at some stage too.

Filtration - Closed loop system with LR and live sand doing the filtration

Skimmer - Silverthorne gave me an SK-05 but im not sure how good it is, I might throw it in for the hell of it.....

Livestock Plans - Mostly zoas and softies, maybe an LPS or two.

fish im not too bugged about, probably a pair of occelaris or something?? Some gobies, hermts and snails

If ive forgotten anything i'll post it here later

I know it sounds small......;) But it might just work
